Calabria is the most south region of the Italian continent.
Pictorially spoken it takes the boot top of the Italian peninsula.
Calabria borders in the north on the Basilicata, in the west to the
Tyrrhenian sea and in the east to the Ionic sea. The street of Messina
separates Calabria from the island Sicily.
Calabria enchants on the first glance by its many-facetted charm: a warm,
colourful world of full contrasts and attractions. In Calabria there are
exclusive holiday places, historic and legendary places, an outstanding
kitchen, alive customs and traditions! The warm hospitality of the Calabrese
and almost 800 kms of coast with lonely bays invite to idiom to take a break from everyday life.
Nature
Moreover, fascinating forests, three national parks and impressive mountain ranges,
as for example in the Sila mountains or Aspromonte, inspire adventurer and nature
lover. In the fertile levels on the coasts and in the river valleys grow citrus
fruits and a rich multiplicity of other fruit sorts and types of vegetable.
Also the wine-growing plays a role. Particularly the DOC regions with Ciro,
Lamezia and with Reggio di Calabria produce good red, rose and also white wines.
Near the agriculture the fishing, the forestry and the cattle attitude also are important.
Regional Cuisine
The Gastronomy of this splendid region that
united completely different territories is well
balanced; in the cookbook can be found in the
correct proportion dishes base of ovine and pig
meat, of vegetables and of fish. Calabria is a
sour earth, sunny that gives perfumed citrus
fruit, olives, over that vegetables and wines,
characteristic details of this kitchen.
